Hello! My name is Bailey and I am a fourth-year transfer student in the Ecology, Evolution, and Biology department. I had the privilege of growing up in the Santa Cruz Mountains, and spent much of this summer internship studying the behaviors of California scrub-jays in these same mountains that I call home. Outside of school I spend my time birding, backpacking, knitting, and doing every other hobby your average grandmother enjoys!

I hope to continue my path in academia and complete a PhD here at UCSC, eventually moving foward to teach at a community college level. I believe open science communication and accesibility is essential in bridging the gap between scientific discovery and your every day community member. Working with the Martinez Lab this summer provides me an opportunity to hone in the skills I will use to continue to exlpore the world of science and conservation.
